Artistes en Atelier

by David Richalet (Editions Dajéric), 2025

“I feel an almost physical need to be in my studio, much like the way my left hand starts to itch and grow restless if I go too long without painting or drawing. The moment I push the door open, a blend of familiar smells—paint, varnish—greets me and quite literally takes hold of me. The ritual never changes. I take a deep breath — the word matters — I open the blinds and watch the light enter this vast space. At the center of my studio‑world, I savor my solitude and feel the comforting certainty of being in the right place, as if it were self‑evident. Some areas of my brain switch off, others awaken, drawing me into a state that invites creation… my hand takes over. Painting is a ceremony in solitude.” — Barbara Christol
